3rd Abass Alavi Meeting Held at TUOMS

The 3rd Abass Alavi meeting was held with the presence of Danish professors from Odense University Hospital (OUH)/Southern Denmark University (SDU) at Tabriz University of Medical Sciences (TUOMS) on 2-3 October, 2018.

Alavi Aging Institute (AIA) of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences (TUOMS) held the third Alavi meeting on October 2-3, just one day after the International Day of Older Persons.
Dr. Anne Pernille Hermann, Dr. Uffe Holmskov, and Dr. Jens M. Lauritsen were among the Danish delegation. Dr. Manouchehr Seyedi Vafaee, adjunct professor of TUOMS also accompanied the Danish delegation.
This was a 2-day program starting with a business meeting at which details of the agreement on collaboration regarding double PhD degrees was discussed. Moreover, financial affairs of conducting joint research studies was discussed in detail and each party proposed their own ideas and expectations to achieve a definite final agreement soon.
Thereafter, the scientific program of the meeting consisting of six parts started as following:
  • There were two sections on the first day:
  1. PET section: This section was held with the presence of professors and experts in the field of nuclear medicine from various cities of Iran, Germany and Denmark.
  2. Presentation of new projects: This section composed of the presentation of ten new PhD projects proposed to AIA. These projects had been previously reviewed by the reviewers of TUOMS; and they got reviewed by Danish professors after the presentations. Finally, four of them were approved as international projects to be collaborated mutually.
  • There were four sections on the second day:
  1. Presentation of three centers of AIA: AIA consists of three centers i.e. neuroscience research center, physical medicine and rehabilitation research center, and research center of psychiatry and behavioral sciences. Some of the academic staff of these centers presented their lectures in the field of aging.
  2. Progress reports of ongoing projects: This section included the progress reports of the five previously accepted projects of AIA which are being conducted in collaboration with Denmark. The supervisors of the projects presented their progress note, stated the existing problems and obstacles, and asked for the assistance of their Danish co-supervisors to overcome these problems and improve their works.
  3. Workshops: The Danish professors gave lectures on their own fields and offered the opportunities at SDU/OUH for further collaboration.
  4. Student session: This was a very effective and impressive section in which ten talented medical and PhD students presented their proposals and ideas. Professors from TUOMS, SDU and University of Munich gave them advice to improve their projects and presentations.
